This program, hosted by Stony Brook University and organized through the Career Center's Office of Externships and Community Outreach, brought together a community of service-driven individuals to launch the University Composting Group. The initiative aimed to expand and kickstart composting and waste reduction efforts across campus dining and residential facilities. Supported by a $2K budget sponsored by the Auxiliary Student Association, the project spanned an entire year, focusing on creating sustainable infrastructure and fostering campus-wide engagement.
Key accomplishments included developing documentation, building composting infrastructure, organizing digital platforms, and hosting publicity and informational events. The group also coordinated volunteer events, logged significant volunteer hours, and held board meetings to ensure progress. Collaboration with dining staff, residential administration, and campus development teams was essential to successfully activating composting initiatives on campus. This effort not only promoted environmental sustainability but also established a lasting framework for waste reduction and reuse at Stony Brook University.
